I am currently working in Los Angeles, California as a freelance designer and art director for print and web. My most recent project was for the massively popular Beyond the Streets designing the exhibition book and the street banners for the exhibit.
From 2013 to 2017, I was the Art Director at OC Weekly, an alternative news weekly that serves the area between Long Beach and San Clemente. In my time there, I worked on over 240 issues putting together all cover design and article layouts. I worked closely with photographers and illustrators in order to effectively promote the news and stories we covered. I am highly skilled in Adobe’s Creative Suite, working in Adobe Photoshop and InDesign every day as well as Illustrator when needed. Also in that role, I took a lot of photography that makes its way into each issue. I have a great understanding of typography and composition and love working out complex concepts and seeing them through to completion. I have been recognized by the Association of Alternative Newsweeklies in 2013, coming in 3rd nationally for photography art direction and the OC Press Club in 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017 for Headline Design, Cover Design, Page Layout, Best Photo Essay for my trip to Antigua, Guatemala and Best Photo Essay for my trip to Tokyo, Japan. You can also see samples of my writing here, here, here and here.
Prior to OC Weekly, I was an Art Director at Brand Sense Partners, a multi-tiered branding, licensing and marketing agency focusing on consumer products and fashion. I did work for clients including Hamilton Beach, Dodge, and the estates of Jimi Hendrix and Marlon Brando as well as working closely with the in-house agency, The POP Studio, to pitch and secure large contracts including Kenneth Cole Reaction and Hudson’s Bay Company.
On a personal level, I am a DJ, Disnerd, art lover and self-ascribed tech-addict. I found a comfort in web design at an early age, teaching myself HTML and CSS starting at 14. It wasn’t until my mid-twenties, after college, that I started working in the print arena. I have career experience in newspaper advertising for independent and feature films, publishing, web design, branding and marketing…being deeply involved in problem solving all along the way.
I would love the opportunity to talk to you about any upcoming projects.
